Kodaikanal Itinerary

When your busy schedule calls for a break and you do not have much time to spare on a long vacation, a short trip to a secluded place can do magic for you by making you feel replenished. If you are looking for one such getaway, Kodaikanal is waiting for you.

A quaint town in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Kodaikanal is known as the ‘Princess of hill stations’. It once served as a summer destination for the British to escape the heat and tropical diseases of the plains. Through the passage of time, it became a famous tourist attraction for people across the country.

In Tamil, Kodaikanal means ‘the gift of the forest’, and it stands true to its name as it proffers a serene and tranquil getaway from the cacophony of city life. The hamlet renders pleasant and cool weather throughout the year, making it a good choice for tourists.

If you cannot take time out for a long vacation, our Kodaikanal itinerary for 3 days is enough to cover most tourist attractions and give you relaxation and restore your energy. While executing your Kodaikanal trip plan, you can keep our itinerary handy to ensure that you don’t miss out on anything. Here are a few places you can cover in 3 days in Kodaikanal.

Day 1

When in Kodaikanal, you cannot miss out on the famous Kodaikanal Lake. Perched at an elevation of 7000 ft. above sea level, it is one of the major tourist attractions of the small town. It is surrounded by the alluring Palani Hills that add to the beauty of the serene lake. It is a man-made lake with a height of 180 ft. which was built in 1863 to promote tourism in the region.

Another factor that makes this lake special is the existence of a rare flower called Neelakurinji (blue Kurinji) that blooms in this lake once in 12 years. You can spend almost an entire day here embracing the beauty of the region and still have time for a long walk.

A long walk is always good to release some stress, and walking along a picturesque valley can make it even better. Coaker’s Walk is a long walkway along the slope of Palani Hills. It accounts for one of the best places for a photowalk as you can embrace the scenic forest view on a clear sunny day and feel the clouds floating below your feet on a cloudy day.

Day 2

If your heart goes out to waterfalls, then Kodaikanal is the place for you. It has two beautiful waterfalls not too far from Kodai Lake - Bear Shola and Silver Cascade. After enjoying the long walks, you can have a refreshing swim in these waterfalls on your second day here.

These falls were once watering holes for bears in the Shola region. However, not many bears have been seen around the waterfall in a long time, making it a beloved tourist spot. Many people come here to admire the mesmerising views.

Silver Cascade Falls forms a plunge pool for visitors and presents a picturesque view. It originates from Kodai Lake and is formed by water gushing through the rough terrain of the hills. A perfect picnic spot, this waterfall is frequented by rare birds which makes it a sought-after destination for ornithophiles.

Day 3

After exploring the beautiful lake and the waterfalls, Day 3 calls for a bewildering sightseeing experience. Kodaikanal's quaint tourist spots await you for the same. If you want a relaxing picnic with friends and family, Bryant Park is your destination: if you want to see the valley in its charisma then Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint is where you go. On Day 3 you can choose either of these locations as you decide how to conclude your trip.

Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint gets its name owing to the fact that it looks like a dolphin’s nose. Located around 6000 ft. above sea level, the height of the rock provides a panoramic view of the Palani region.

Bryant Park is located near Kodai Lake and is ornamented with beautiful species of flowers and plants. At a short distance from Coaker’s Walk, this small botanical garden is perfect for a day picnic with friends and family.

During your visit to Kodaikanal, you can pick The Carlton as your stay option and choose from our luxurious accommodations and delightful dining options.
